25 Random Things About Me
- I love commercials. I admire those companies good at creating amazing commercials. Whenever Apple has its annual product launch, I was always there watching it live. I watched all Apple’s promo videos. Not just that, when I had my film class project in BU, I recreated the iconic AirPods commercial myself.
- I am slightly chubby, but I really like sports, especially basketball.
- When I was 11, I joined the local speed roller skating team. Every single weekend night for two years, I went to practice for 3 hours. Although by the end, I didn’t win anything. But I miss those days of training rigorously with my friends.
- When I was young, my parents traveled for work a lot, so I was passed around to be cared by different friends of my parents during their absence.
- These younger-day experiences probably trained me to be very adaptable and independent.
- I love traveling. But those economy-class seats on international flights can be grueling. Well, after running my business ONWEAR for one year and generating some actual income, the summer after my sophomore year, I rewarded myself a business-class ticket to Athens as my birthday gift. I was very proud that I started to support myself, and I could fund my trip with my own money.
- I am passionate about typesetting and designs. For almost all my team presentations, I always composed and designed the final presentation’s setup.
- My Myers & Briggs Personality test says I am an ENTP - A, a debater. I think that’s very accurate. I am one of those who will pursue my goals vigorously despite any resistance. (A Debater tends to be bold and creative, deconstructing and rebuilding ideas with great mental agility. https:///www.16personalities.com/entp-personality)
- I am a true digital/electronic product fan! I am an early adaptor and love crowdfunding to promote innovative products on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.
- Unlike most of my Asian friends, math is not my strongest suit. I collaborate with others of my company to ensure that my struggle in math will never become a hindrance to the company’s growth.
- Shouren Wang is the person I admire the most. He was a Chinese philosopher and the creator of the School of the Mind philosophy during Ming Dynasty (1502 A.D.). One of the most profound theories I learned about is the concept of “知行合一,” which means “knowledge and action were unified as one.” I became captivated by this concept starting from high school. I decided to apply his principle into my own experiences of learning the knowledge in school and applying them in real-life practices. It guided me throughout my startup journey and all the way into college. This is how I value learning in classrooms and applying outside the classrooms. I don’t agree with arguments saying students should only study.
- I loved to listen to Eminem’s music in middle school. When I started boarding school in middle school, there were no computers, no cellphones allowed. I had to handwrite lyrics of Eminem’s songs into a notebook when I went home on weekends. After returning to school, I would find any spare time trying to learn these songs in my head. Eminem’s singing speed is super-fast, and my native language wasn’t English, so on average, it would take me 3-4 days to learn one song. I felt that learning to sing Eminem’s songs at the time helped me a lot to improve my English-speaking skills, which benefited me when I enrolled in an all-English speaking high school.
- When I was studying abroad in London, I noticed that many of the lampposts along the streets could charge electric vehicles. I found those EVs very cool because they could protect the environment and provide almost the same experience as driving non-electric cars. Therefore, I believe they will become mainstream soon.
- During my internship at TJ Sports, I was able to see all the celebrity players in the arena almost every day. I was very excited to see them for the first time, just like any fan would be. Imagine what it would be like if you got to see Ronaldo and Messi every day at work. But it wasn’t long before I was fully committed to my job because I realized that just like those players, I had jobs to do, and I need to do them well for the players to compete better.
- The name of my startup, ONWEAR, represents my vision to have all esports teams wearing the jerseys we craft—WEAR and ON.
- The proudest thing in my startup career is that my company got the privilege to design and produce player jerseys for the Chinese National Team competing in Arena of Valor’s World Cup in LA. The promo video is here.
- I’m a DIY kind of guy. When my laptop’s battery died, and the repair cost was going to be $1,000, I spent $65 on a screwdriver and a new battery and replaced it myself. Now my laptop is as good as new.
- My all-time-favorite TV show is Friends, and my favorite character is Chandler Bing. I think he is funny in life and treats all his friends nicely. I feel like I’m somewhat similar to him in a way because when I hang out with my friends, I’m usually the one who tells a lot of jokes.
- My most favorite thing about my BU life is the annual lobster night, and the least favorite part was the hot freshman dorm without A/C in the summer.
- My favorite book is entitled: “Stories About Ming Dynasty” (a translation from its Chinese title). In there, one sentence became my lifelong motto: “Once on the path, there is no turning back.”
- At age 15, I organized my first esports event—a small scale of four teams competing for the game CS: GO in my high school dorm. That was the prelude to my startup esports profession. Little did I know.
- Running a company is different from taking classes in school. One incident that I remember the most was this one time our production department messed up a big client’s order, which was due the next day. I had to stay on the phone in my apartment, coordinating and communicating with the rest of my team in China from 9 pm to 6 am the next day with a 6-hour time difference to ensure the order’s delivery. Through all efforts from our team, that order was received with great satisfaction. Our company gained more businesses as a result of our efforts and dedication.
- My favorite course in BU is professional presentation taught by Prof. Edward Downes, one of my favorite professors in BU. I did 12 different presentations during the course without memorizing any scripts, and I nailed every one of them.

- Comparing to Marvel characters, I am more into DC characters like Batman and Joker, who have more depth and are not just mere protagonists and heroes. They have their unique backstories and moral codes as well.
